Douglas Owens-Pike founded EnergyScapes, a full-services landscape firm, in 1989 to promote the use of native plants for energy and water conservation, year-round natural beauty and to preserve Minnesota's biodiversity. We are facing a time of great upheaval within our society. In addition to fear of adequate energy supplies, it now appears the climate is more erratic than any we have known. Periods of excessive rainfall are immediately followed by extended drought. It seems the old pattern of upper Midwest extremes has become exaggerated. Warm ups are more common in winter, spring is coming earlier and fall starts later. Global climate change is real.
